He is a frequent national commentator on issues of Antiracism, Democracy and Civil Rights. Peniel Joseph is the Barbara Jordan Chair in Ethics and Political Values at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and professor of history and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at the University of Texas at Austin. He is working on two new book length projects, The Door of Return: A Phenomenology of Blackness and Ramifications of Ramifications: The Art and Philosophy of Toni Morrison.ĭr. He has published two monographs, An Africana Philosophy of Temporality: Homo Liminalis and Black Minded: The Political Philosophy of Malcolm X. Michael Sawyer is Associate Professor of African-American Literature and Culture in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh.
